about our wireless internet

The association has installed wireless internet throughout the building for all residents.  The wireless supports most  WIFI enabled modems and computers supporting both 802.11 B and G devices. The wireless service uses two high-speed 7Mbps Qwest DSL connections and a Cisco load balancing router which provides sufficient bandwidth for residents and redundancy in case of failure.   Two Ethernet jacks are also located in the fitness room next to the conference table in case you need a wired connection.

The association installed commercial-grade wireless access points and routers similar to what you would find in a hotel or other public venue.    Commercial-grade equipment transmits a stronger signal, is more reliable, and provides added security features over access points you could buy for home use.    Although the association does not guarantee the Internet connection will always be available, we purchased high quality equipment and designed the network with redundancy  in an effort to create a reliable connection for you.

privacy

Your privacy is important to us and we will strive to act in a responsible manner to protect your privacy while using the Internet service.   The association's routers do not log what websites are visited by any user nor does it have the capability to do so.   The association's equipment also does not block or limit your access to any sites.   The association's equipment does not record or retain the data you transmit or receive over the Internet except as described below and that is necessary to maintain the system.

The equipment does record certain pieces of information when you are connected to the wireless service that is necessary for security (to authenticate you as an authorized user) and to maintain the system such as your computer's MAC address and the time you are connected to the service (in hours).

You should be aware that it is possible, as with any wireless connection, that other third parties may monitor or intercept your data and you should use appropriate encryption for sensitive data.  We recommend that you enable a software-based firewall on your computer and make sure you have virus protection software installed on your computer before using this service.

simple steps to connect
  1. Connect to the wireless network briargate
  2. The wireless is secured with a WEP key.   Enter the WEP key/passphrase briar when prompted by your computer.
  3. Once connected open a browser and the Association's login page will appear.   Enter your user name and password.      All owners have three logins (in case you have more than one computer).   Once you use a login on a computer the network will remember that computer and you shouldn't need to login again - but you will need additional logins for different computers.    Your user name is your unit number with a number after it.  For example if you are in Unit 2A... your login names are 2A1, 2A2, and 2A3.    The password is typically your building security code.
  4. Once the service terms of use page appears you are connected.

If you need more logins or have questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
