INSTRUCTIONS: Please test the smoke detectors in your unit and complete this form below.   You will receive a confirmation by email.

For the safety of all condominium residents the Denver Fire Department requires smoke detectors in condo units be tested every six months.   As an association we are required by law to ask residents to complete this form and keep them on file for fire department inspection.  We have made the form available online to help make the process as easy as possible for you.   Additional information about this requirement can be found here.   Thank you for helping us comply with Denver City Law and keep our building safe for everyone!

I/We, the owner(s) of this condominium/townhouse unit(s), do certify that smoke detectors, either 120 Volt A/C or battery powered, have been installed and tested as required by the Denver Building Code Section 101 Appendix amended, and that I/We have: (check all that apply)

  1. Tested for proper function (Required every 6 months, by occupant.)  "Test" button only tests the condition of the power source and horn.  To test the sensor use actual smoke, or a consumer product, "Smoke Detector Testing Spray". 
  2. If battery operated detectors, replace batteries (Required every 12 months by occupant.)  
     

It is required that you file this Certificate of Compliance with the Manager or Board of Directors of the Homeowners Association.  A log book for these Certificates is required to be maintained by the manager or Association, and kept available for inspection by the Fire Prevention Bureau.

Failure to Comply with Required Inspections. Such failure shall constitute an unsafe and hazardous condition; in which case all the detectors in the building (or individual dwelling unit) shall be required to receive their primary power from the building's commercial electric service.
